Aultagh
Celtic
The
club was founded in 2003 by a group of friends as a social outlet and has grown
successfully from there with new players joining every year. The team’s
manager, Donie Coughlan, joined the lads halfway through their first season and
has been on the sidelines with words of encouragement every game since. The
original pitch was in the townland of Aultagh (north
of Dunmanway), hence the name, but moved to the current location in Mohana in 2004.
The team spent 3 seasons in
Division 2 before winning promotion to Division 1 last season where they
continue to play very well. In addition to reaching the Beamish Cup final this
year, other highlights for the club include reaching the AIB Shield and Carling
Cup finals in the 2005/2006 season. The lads are also contending for promotion
again this year!
As testimony to the spirit of
the club, Aultagh Celtic boasts one of the most loyal fan bases in the West
Cork League with supporters of all ages guaranteed at every game regardless of
the weather.
The team are continually
grateful to Sam Jennings and his family for the use of their land for their
pitch, and would like to extend their immense appreciation to them. Also, many
thanks go to Kevin O’ Connell (Main Sponsor), The Parkway Hotel and Mc Mahons of Dunmanway, for their continuing sponsorship.
